When you receive your purpose from God – your perspective will change: You’ll realize God is holding you accountable for what you do with his gifts.  Remember Jesus’ story of the talents in Matthew 25: 14-30. God gave me a paradigm shift years ago about my talent. I was sitting in a church service listening to a message about the man issuing talents and going on a journey. The man returns from his journey and discovers the one he issued 5 talents and the one he issued 2 talents doubled their talents.  But the one he issued 1 hid his in the ground and did nothing. I heard this story countless times before and nothing happened.

This time was different; conviction from the Holy Spirit came on me and I began to weep. I clearly saw myself as the man with 1 talent who buried his gift.  I knew I may as well have literally buried my talent in the ground just like the man for all the good I had done with it.
I prayed, “Father if you give me another chance, I’ll develop it, I’ll use it and multiply it.” That 1 talent was my writing. I’m happy to report to you over twenty years later, with God’s help I’m still doing my best to use it and multiply it.  In fact, I’m certain my books would never have been born. For sure this article birthed from the books would never have been written if I hadn’t prayed that prayer.

Speaking of doing your best, when you receive your appointment God you realize God deserves your best. You’ll serve in excellence according to Colossians 3:22-25
22Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God 23 and whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance for you serve the Lord Christ.

Don’t just give God you any old kind of service. Make it your best. Let me mother you a bit, if you’re serving in excellence you’re going to be on time. If you can’t be there – you’re going to call and let your authority know what’s up and reassure them you’ll be back in place next time. When Varn and I were taking a team of people to the highways and byways to feed the poor, we left at exactly that time. Our team members began to know if they truly wanted to go with us – they had to be on time. Make your service as unto God an excellent gift for His glory.
