Day 3

God Chose Us First!

[content_box_red width=”75%”]WOW Words of Today: (No,) for God also selected—deliberately chose- (what) in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. 28 And God also selected—deliberately chose- (what) in the world is lowborn and insignificant, and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are; 29 So that no mortal man should (have pretense for glorying and) boast in the presence of God. –1 Corinthians 1:27-29 Amp[/content_box_red]

The fact the Father chose us (you and me) always reminds me of a story a pastor friend of mine tells about the runt puppy. Have you ever had pick of the puppy litter. You went to choose your puppy; the one that was going home with you. The owner brought them out. They spilled out of the big basket. There was the rambunctious one that had lots of energy.

You couldn’t miss the one that chased everything in sight or the one that was so cute and chubby. But then there was the one that was still in the basket just dragging itself out. Your eyes kept coming back to him; you kept looking at the funny looking, awkward one. That’s the one your heart jumped at. You chose the one that you had no reason to like. Yes, I’m sure that’s the one I want.

I imagine the Father doing the same thing with choosing me…13 God still chooses the unlikely. Remember the genealogy of Christ I mentioned earlier. God saw a different potential in each woman. They were not chosen for their extraordinary gifts but for their willingness to obey God. There was Bath Sheba that started out as an adulteress, Ruth—a foreigner and idolater, Rahab—a prostitute and so on of all the women except Mary the mother of Jesus who was an ordinary teenage young woman.14

The Corinthian writer explains like this:

(No,) for God also selected—deliberately chose- (what) in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. –1 Corinthians 1:27-29 Amp

The women listed above were not perfect women. Yet they are remembered among God’s chosen and forgiven in Scripture. Are you listed in God’s Holy book (lamb’s book of life) as forgiven?

21 Day W.O.R.D. Challenge Exercise

(Memorize Memory Scripture, Pray and Say it aloud throughout every day of the challenge.)

  • Memory Scripture: For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. -2 Corinthians 5:21
  • Confession: I am the righteousness of God through Christ.
